Over the course of the program, students were placed in a variety of departments including the operating room, radiology, physical therapy, and medical supply. Others worked on the hospital floor as patient care technicians and unit secretaries, engaging in both direct and indirect patient care activities.

This exposure allowed them to not only shadow and observe but also participate in the daily responsibilities of healthcare workers. The paid-internship program has proven to be more than just a learning experience. It offers students the chance to build professional relationships, explore potential career paths, and understand the importance of every role in a hospital setting--from patient care to behind-the-scenes support.

Programs like this not only benefit the students, but also serve as a pipeline for future healthcare professionals. This initiative is funded by Accelerate MS and Three Rivers PDD in partnership with Grenada School District and UMMC.

We wish to say a special "Thank You" to Human Resource Director Celine Craig and all of the UMMC-Grenada Staff that have helped to pioneer this program for Grenada High School Students.
