NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Date: January 17, 2023

To Whom It May Concern:

Special education records which have been collected by the Grenada School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, completes his/her education program at age 21, or moves from the district.

This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of the Grenada School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who graduated or exited/completed the special education program from the Grenada School District and were 26 years of age as of December 31, 2022. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the district otherwise.

Records may be picked up from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM from the Office of Special Education at 1855 Jackson Avenue in Grenada from January 17, 2023, through February 28, 2023. Proper identification such as a driver's license, state ID, etc. must be presented to obtain records. Records will be destroyed February 28, 2023. After five (5) years, the records are no longer useful to the district but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, or college entrance.

The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records in writing or in person at the following address:
